Troy Men's Tennis Opens Season With Win

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The Troy men's tennis team started the season off with a win and a loss to open up the spring dual season on Saturday at the Florida State Invitational.
The Trojans win came in a narrow 4-3 defeat of Mercer in Tallahasse. Troy won all three doubles pairings against Mercer. Hassan Ndayishimiye and Andre Baldo won 6-3, Filip Mansson and Jaiqi Duan also won 6-3. Pablo Moreno and Andy Lau won 5-4 before the match concluded with a DNF.
In singles play against Mercer, Ndayishimiye rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (4) win, Moreno won 7-6 (2), 6-1 and freshman Amer Bedwan picked up a 6-2, 6-7 (6), 6-3 win.
Troy's matchup against Georgia State did not fall in favor of any Trojan as the Panthers swept the series, 4-0. Troy fell in two doubles matches and had a DNF in the third. No singles player made it to the third set against Georgia State.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH
Playing in his first dual match of his career, freshman Amer Bedwan showed resolve to hold on for the win after falling in the second set 6-7 (6). After the second set defeat against Mercer, Bedwan came back to clinch the final set 6-3 to give Troy the victory.
NOTEWORTHY
• Despite the loss to Georgia State, the only shut out in a set on the day was Andy Lau's 6-0 loss in the second set against Mercer.
• The sweeps in both series means that Troy enters the second day of the Florida State Invitational with a 3-3 overall record in doubles play.
