Troy Rallies from Early Deficit, Falls in Overtime

TROY, Alabama – The Troy soccer team fought back from an early 2-0 deficit, but fell to UL Lafayette, 3-2, in double overtime on Sunday at the Troy Soccer Complex.
The Ragin' Cajuns scored in the 18th and 21st minute before a nearly two hour lighting delay allowed Troy to regroup. Annabell Simpson entered as a substitute and scored her first goal of the season in the 49th minute. Haley Roberson played a long ball down the left wing that was picked up by Brooke McKee, who slotted it past two defenders and into the path of Simpson.
Nicole Harris landed her second goal of the campaign with a headed effort in the 77th minute. Harris planted the ball in the back of the net after Roberson played a perfect cross from the wing.
ULL (5-5-1, 2-1-1) scored in the third minute of the second overtime to take the game. It was just the second loss for the Trojans in the last 26 home matches.
STAT OF THE GAME
Troy entered the game second in the league with 69 corner kicks. The Trojans added 16 more on Sunday.
MOMENT THAT MATTERED
It appeared as if the Trojans had tied the game in the 54th minute when Nicole Strahl headed in a corner from Klara Andrup. The play, however, was waved off after a foul was called on Troy.
UP NEXT
Troy (5-5-2, 1-1-1) plays three consecutive road matches starting with a Peach State swing next week. The Trojans travel to take on Georgia State on Sept. 30 and Georgia Southern on Oct. 2. The annual rivalry match with South Alabama looms on Oct. 7 in Mobile.

• Brooke McKee led the Trojans with four shots in the match.
• Freshman midfielder Julia Winter made her second straight start. She attempted one shot in 50 minutes of action.
