Troy Volleyball Prepares for Four Matches at Maroon Classic

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team will head to Starkville, Miss., for the Maroon Classic, a tournament that will feature four matches for the Trojans. The first match will take place on Friday at 2 p.m., against Portland with a 7 p.m., match slated against host Mississippi State that can be seen on SECNetwork+.

Tournament play will resume on Saturday at 10 a.m., against Eastern Illinois and conclude with a 5 p.m., match against former Sun Belt foe FIU.

Troy (6-5) fell to UAB in five sets earlier this week on Tuesday night, after winning three straight road matches at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Invitational last weekend.

NOTEWORTHY
• Sara Landis is the first player to reach 100 kills this season and has a team-high 108 kills. She is averaging 18.5 kills over the past two matches and set a career-high 19 kills against UAB.

•  Reina Terry was one kill and three digs away from recording a triple-double against UAB on Tuesday night. She added 47 assists to those other two categories.

• Leah Causey has a team-high 40 total blocks and is averaging one block per set, which is also best on the team.

• Troy is outblocking its opponents 82.0 to 63.5 for the season, which ranks fifth in the Sun Belt.

• The Trojans lead the Sun Belt opponent hitting percentage. Opponents have a .151 hitting percentage when playing Troy.

THE COMPETITION
•  Portland (4-5) have faced stiff competition throughout the year, but has wins over Oregon State, Utah State, Fresno State and CSU Bakersfield. The Pilots are led by Hannah Troutman, who has 105 kills and a .208 hitting percentage.

• Mississippi State (5-5) is on a four-game losing streak after dropping a five set match to Oklahoma at the Little Rock Invitational and losing three at the Wildcat Classic hosted by Kansas State. The Bulldogs have two players with over 100 kills. Evie Grace Singleton has 155 kills and is fourth in the SEC with 3.78 kills per set. Emily Hill is the other Bulldog with over 100 kills as she has 108 this year.

• Eastern Illinois (2-9) has only won two games against Jackson State and Western Illinois. The Panthers are led defensively by Maggie Runge, who has 54 total blocks and 1.29 blocks per set.

• FIU (4-5) has bounced back and forth between wins and losses, but is fresh off a four set win over North Florida at the Best Western Osprey Invite. Opponents are outhitting their opponents and are hitting .207, while the Panthers are hitting .163 overall.
