BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team fell to UAB, 3-2, in five sets on Tuesday night at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
After falling in the first set 25-21, the Trojans (6-5) bounced back and won the next two games 25-19 and 25-21. Troy went on a 7-1 run to begin the third set and didn't look back to go up two sets to one.
UAB (7-5) won the fourth set 25-20 and recorded 16 kills and a .270 hitting percentage. The Blazers continued their success in the fifth set. Troy took an early 2-0 lead in the set with a Symone Shaw kill and a Blazer attack error, but UAB went on a run and clinched the match with a 15-12 fifth set victory.
QUOTABLE
"I'm really proud of our team," Sonny Kirkpatrick said. "It was by far the best we've played all year. UAB's a good team and they are well coached. It's been a long time since we played this well on the road against a good team. I'm really looking forward to getting back at it this weekend."
PLAYER OF THE GAME
After recording a new career-high 18 kills one match ago against Savannah State, Sara Landis one-upped that accolade with a career-high 19 kills in Tuesday's match.
TURNING POINT
UAB went up 9-5 in the fifth set after going on a 6-2 run when the match was tied 3-3. The Trojans battled back and cut it to a one point deficit four different times, but never regained the lead.
