Lucas Brown Named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week

TROY, Alabama – Senior pitcher Lucas Brown has been named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the Sun Belt conference announced on Monday. This is the final time the award will be given out for the 2016 season.

"This is a great way for him to end his season," head coach Mark Smartt said. "He had an outstanding performance against South Alabama."

Brown picked up the win against No. 23 South Alabama in his last career outing at Riddle-Pace Field on Friday night. He pitched eight innings and struck out eight. The Acworth, Ga., native only allowed two runs – both unearned – on four hits. He pitched five perfect innings and struck out the side in one inning. He produced 12 ground ball outs and had four fly outs.

This season, Brown has eight wins, which is tied for tops on the team. He has a 2.54 ERA over 95.2 innings pitched. He has struck out 69 batters and only walked 25.
