Troy Returns with Pair of Home Matches
4/5/2016 12:19:00 PM | Tennis (M)
Â
TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's tennis team hasn't played a competitive match in over three weeks, but will return on Wednesday when it hosts a pair of matches at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The Trojans will host Alabama A&M at 12 p.m. and Jacksonville State at 2 p.m. Admission to all home tennis matches is free.
Â
Troy (12-11) has won 11 of its last 13 matches, but the Trojans haven't played since March 15 when they beat Eastern Kentucky and Southern Illinois on a neutral court in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Troy has played just one match at home this season, a March 4 win over Chattanooga, but will host six this week.
Â
Pablo Moreno owns Troy's best record in single splay this spring at 12-5, followed by Mustapha Belcora at 10-4. Daniel Bustamante has played mostly in the No. 1 singles slot and has a 7-8 record, but seven of those losses are against nationally-ranked opponents.
Â
As a team, Troy has played an incredibly tough schedule as nine of its 11 losses have come against ranked teams, and all 11 have come in true road matches.
Â
Alabama A&M (0-11) hosts North Alabama on Tuesday before making the trip to Troy on Wednesday. The Bulldogs are winless on the season and most recently lost a pair of matches at Auburn on Saturday.
Â
Jacksonville State (7-11) also played last weekend, losing at home against Eastern Kentucky on Friday before winning at home against Morehead State on Saturday.
Â
Following Wednesday 's matches, Troy will host four matches on Sunday. South Alabama, Florida A&M, No. 51 Georgia State and Alabama State will all visit the Lunsford Tennis Complex with matches set to begin at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Â
Troy will honor its two seniors, Bustamante and Giovani Samaha, with a ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
