Troy Drops Game One Against the Gamecocks

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Troy softball team fell, 8-0, at South Carolina on Saturday at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field in six innings.
South Carolina (26-9) jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning to get things started. The Gamecocks plated three more runs in the third and fourth innings combined making the score 4-0 heading into the fifth. A four-run sixth inning clinched the victory for the Gamecocks.
Lauren Masters singled the first run of the inning in with a shot that got through the right side and Kaylea Snaer singled to left field to make the score 6-0. Taylor Williams put the final nail in the coffin when she doubled up the middle and scored two runs, making the final score 8-0.
Troy (23-11) couldn't push a run across the plate in six innings and had only one hit on the day that came off the bat of Hannah Day when she singled to left field in the first inning.
Claire Graves (5-2) suffered the loss in the circle and gave up seven hits and four runs. Meg Willis came in relief out of the bullpen and tossed two innings and gave up four runs, none of them earned.
The Trojans return to the diamond on Sunday to face the Gamecocks for the second game of the weekend.
