Troy Women’s Tennis Falls at No. 57 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Florida – The Troy women's tennis team closed its regular season on Friday with a 4-2 loss to No. 57 Florida State at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The Trojans will now prepare for next week's Sun Belt Championships.
Troy (11-8) grabbed the doubles point on Friday, but the nationally-ranked Seminoles were too strong in singles play. Luisa Ferrauti did cruise to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kathryn Phillips at No. 6 singles, but that was the lone singles point the Trojans would grab.
Florida state (11-12) got wins at No. 5, No. 1, No. 3 and No. 2, in that order, to grab the 4-2 win. The loss at No. 2 by Troy's Sanae Ohta snapped the sophomore's nine-match winning streak. Nancy Karaky also carried a nine-match winning streak into the contest, and it will stay there as her match at No. 4 was unfinished.
The Sun Belt Championships begin on Thursday at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans. The women's tournament features 10 teams, with the lowest four seeds playing on Thursday. The remaining six seeds will open play on Friday, April 22.
