Troy Baseball Falls to Samford, Looks Ahead to Jacksonville State

Troy (8-6) outhit Samford (8-5) 15-11 and had a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth, but the Bulldogs put up 20 runs as opposed to Troy's six to earn the victroy. The Bulldogs scored a combined 16 runs in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 20-5 lead heading into the ninth.

The Trojans were down 4-3 after five innings played. Peyton Fuller led off the top of the sixth inning with a base hit through the left side, for his first hit of the year. The hit and run was executed to perfection as Fuller tied the game at four scoring all the way from first on a Brandon Lockridge double that found the gap in right center field. Lockridge later scored on a sacrifice fly to take a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth.

With nobody out and the bases loaded, Alex Lee hit a bases clearing double to give the Bulldogs a 7-5 lead. Three more runs scored in the inning on a wild pitch and a two-run double to right center that made the score 10-5.

The Bulldogs put up 10 runs in the seventh inning on four hits and one Trojan error. Troy' pitchers combined for seven walks in the inning alone.

Each of the starting nine players for Troy had at least one hit on the night. Lockridge had a 3-for-5 performance with a double and team-high two RBIs. Reid Long had a double in a 2-for-3 performance and TJ Binder had a double going 2-for-5. Trevor Davis and Brody Binder also had multi-hit games and Davis drove in a run, while Binder scored a run.

The Trojans will travel to Jacksonville, Ala., and will send Houston Mabray to the mound for his first start of the season. He will face off against Colton Campbell, who gets the start on the mound for the Gamecocks. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and the game can be seen streamed live on the OVC Digital Network.
