Troy Softball Splits on Day Two of Purple and Gold Challenge

Hannah Day came up big with the walk-off double to center field that clinched the victory for the Trojans (14-4) in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Sophomore Erica Davis was unstoppable at the plate going 4-4 with a career-high two home runs and four RBIs.
The bats started out hot in the first inning and stayed hot throughout the game. Davis drove in the first run of the game home on a double down the left field line. Amanda Winters singled up the middle bringing Davis around to score making the score 2-1.
Davis wasn't finished in the bottom of the second when she sent her second home run of the season over the center field wall stretching the Trojan lead 4-2. She came up hot again in the fourth when she singled to left field driving in another run.
Davis' second long ball of the game came in the bottom of the sixth when she sent it soaring over the right center wall making the score 6-7 with Indiana State leading.
Stephanie Snyder sent the game into extra innings when she singled down the right field line scoring Khadija Neely.
Meg Willis (1-0) recorded her first career win in the circle pitching four innings and giving up only two runs on three hits.
Indiana State (3-7) was on Troy's heels the entire game. The Sycamores regained the lead in the fourth inning when Monique Castillo hit a grand slam giving them the 6-5 lead. Shaye Barton sent another bomb out of the park in the fifth extending their lead 7-5.
Bailey Benefiel (1-4) suffered the loss for the Sycamores giving up 10 runs on 14 hits.
TROY 0, LIPSCOMB 2
Troy (14-5) couldn't push a run across the plate in seven innings and had two hits in the game. Senior Kate Benton had the first hit with a bunt single to the catcher and Khadija Neely had the second and final hit for the Trojans in the top of the seventh inning with a single to left field.
Lipscomb (10-8) struck first scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning when Brittany Elmore hit a sacrifice fly scoring Kelly Young. The second run for the Bison came in the third inning on a Sarah Higgins home run.
Ashley Rainey (7-5) suffered the loss for the Trojans giving up five hits and the two runs for the Bison.
Young (3-2) got the win in the circle for Lipscomb. She didn't allow a run and only allowed two hits.
The Trojans are back in action on Sunday as they take on the Furman Paladins at 12 p.m. in the final game of the Purple and Gold Challenge.
