Troy Drops Series Finale Against No. 5 UL Lafayette
3/26/2016 5:28:00 PM | Softball
TROY, Alabama – Troy couldn't find a way to bounce back from an eight-run UL Lafayette first inning as the Ragin' Cajuns swept the conference series on Saturday at the Troy Softball Complex with a final score of 8-0.
Â
UL Lafayette (25-2, 7-1 Sun Belt) picked up right where they left off on Friday and jumped to an 8-0 lead in the first inning, and that is all they needed to pick up the win against the Trojans.
Â
Kelsey Vincent singled to center field to get the runs started for the Ragin' Cajuns. DJ Sanders and Sara Corbello contributed to the onslaught of runs with a home run each. The eighth run came off the bat of Shellie Landry when she tripled to right field scoring Kara Gremillion.
Â
Troy (21-10, 4-5 Sun Belt) couldn't push a run across the plate and only had two hits on the day. Seniors Hannah Day and Heather Johnston were the only Trojans able to get a hit. Day doubled to left center and Johnston singled to left field.
Â
Alex Stewart (12-0) stayed perfect on the season recording five strikeouts and giving up only two hits for the Ragin' Cajuns. Ashley Rainey (11-8) suffered the loss for the Trojans in the circle giving up five runs on four hits. Claire Graves came in out of the bullpen and tossed an impressive four innings giving up only one hit.
Â
The Trojans are back in action on Tuesday as they play host to the Kennesaw State Owls in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Troy Softball Complex.
