Troy Baseball Falls to No. 16 UL Lafayette in Series Finale

TROY, Alabama – The Troy baseball team took an early 2-0 lead, but fell to No. 16 UL Lafayette, 8-3 in the final game of the series on Sunday at Riddle-Pace Field.

Brandon Lockridge helped Troy (10-8, 1-2 Sun Belt) get off to a quick start with a leadoff single to right field that extended his hit streak to eight games. Cameron Sanders bunted him over to second on the sacrifice and Lockridge advanced to third on a wild pitch. Austin Hulsey brought him in with a sacrifice fly to left field to put the Trojans ahead 1-0. Peyton Fuller singled to right center field that scored another run and put Troy on top 2-0.

UL Lafayette (10-6, 2-1 Sun Belt) cut the lead and tied the game at two on RBI singles in the second and third innings. The Ragin' Cajuns took a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning when Alex Pinero homered down the left field line. Two more runs scored in the inning, one on a triple to right field from Derek Herrington and the other on a groundout to second.

Troy cut the lead to two runs in the sixth inning as Fuller drove in his second run of the game on a double down the left field line that scored Hulsey from first.Â

The Ragin' Cajuns added one run in the eighth on a Brian Mills single, which put them in the lead, 6-3. A sacrifice bunt and a single up the middle plated the final two runs for the Ragin' Cajuns in the ninth.

Three of Troy's four hits came in the first inning and the other came in the sixth. Fuller went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Lockridge and TJ Binder had the other hits on the day.

Nick Lee (3-0) earned his third win this year. He pitched 5.1 innings and allowed Troy to score three runs on three hits.

Cory Gill (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed three runs on three hits and struck out two in 1.2 relief innings.

Troy will have the week off and will resume play on Friday at J.J. Clements Stadium in Statesboro, Ga., with a three-game series against Georgia Southern.
