TROY, Alabama – Ross Kessler has been added to the Troy volleyball coaching staff as an assistant coach, as announced on Tuesday by head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick.
Â
Kessler comes to Troy after one season at Georgia Southern where he was responsible for the Eagles' setters and liberoes, including Alex Beecher who led the Sun Belt with 5.57 digs per set. Kessler was also responsible for opponent scouting, film breakdown and, before coming to Troy, was the program's acting recruiting coordinator.
Â
A native of Louisville, Ky., Kessler spent the previous season, 2014, as a volunteer assistant coach at Kentucky. The Wildcats went 27-6 overall, finished second in the SEC with a 15-3 mark and earned an at-large into the NCAA Championships as the No. 13 national seed. They were ranked in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 Poll all season, climbing to as high as 12th before finishing 17th.
Â
A three-time state champion for Trinity High School in Louisville, Kessler has been coaching at the collegiate and club level since he was a freshman at Butler University in 2005.

Kessler began his coaching career as a student at Butler University. As a freshman in 2005, he was one of two co-founders of the Women's Club Volleyball Program. He was elected head coach of the team and built the program from a team of nine girls to a three-team program which competes on the national stage.
In addition to his duties with the club program, where he was head coach for four years, Kessler served as a student assistant coach with the Butler women's volleyball team for two seasons.
Kessler also competed for the Butler University men's club volleyball team in each of his four years in Indianapolis and was elected president at the end of his freshman year. He was the team's starting setter for four years.
