LARAMIE, Wyoming – Following a narrow 77-82 road loss to No. 24 USC, Troy will have a day off before taking on Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. on Monday at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast on GoWyo.com and Barry McKnight will have the radio broadcast call on TroyTrojans.com.
Â
It will be the second time Troy has faced Wyoming (8-2) and the eighth time overall the Trojans have played an opponent from the current Mountain West Conference. Troy came to Laramie on Dec. 14, 1991 and fell 102-92.
In that game, Reggie Slater of Wyoming grabbed a school-record 27 rebounds. Troy set two Arena-Auditorium records in that game: most field goal attempts (102) and most 3-pointers attempted (59).
Â
The Trojans (6-5) are coming off a loss in Los Angeles, Calif. to start off the Las Vegas Classic. Jeremy Hollimon hit a 3-pointer with 1:17 left to give Troy a one-point lead, but USC responded with six unanswered points to move to 10-0 on the season.
Â
Troy led at halftime against USC—just the second time USC has trailed at halftime all season—but could not close out the win for what would have been the first win over a ranked opponent in program history.
Â
Against USC, Wesley Person had four first half 3-pointers and finished with 19 points on the night. The junior is now averaging 13.8 points per game while Jordon Varnado is averaging a team-best 15.8 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Â
Wyoming (8-2) has reeled off five-consecutive wins following a 97-78 win over Cornell on Saturday night. The only two losses on the season for the Cowboys were back-to-back road losses to Pepperdine and Cal.
