Troy Volleyball Falls to UL Lafayette in Three Sets

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – The Troy volleyball team fell to UL Lafayette in three sets on Friday night at Earl K. Long Gymnasium.
Troy (8-22, 2-11 Sun Belt) ended the first set on a 5-3 run, but fell victim to a 10-5 run to open the set. UL Lafayette (9-18, 5-7 Sun Belt) scored four unanswered midway through the set and took an 18-12 lead.
In the second set, Troy cut the deficit to one point, 19-18, late in the set. A quick 4-0 run by the Ragin' Cajuns led to a 25-21 second set victory. UL Lafayette clinched the match with a 25-19 victory in the third set.
QUOTABLE
"Our serve receive was really good," Sonny Kirkpatrick said. "We just couldn't consistently put away balls on offense and that was the difference in the match."
TURNING POINT
In the second set, Troy had 10 kills but recorded nine attack errors in 34 attempts. The Trojans only hit .029 in the set. On the other side, the Ragin' Cajuns picked up 12 kills and only had four errors in 27 total attempts, which led to a .296 hitting percentage.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Troy had four service aces, compared to UL Lafayette's three. Avalon Nero tallied two on the night and now has 33 this season. Belle Waldrop also had two service aces, which set a career-high in service aces for the freshman.
NOTEWORTHY
• Belle Waldrop was the lone Trojan that had double-digit kills in the match. She finished the match with 10 and recorded her second match with 10 or more kills.
• Troy had 11 kills in the third set and hit .226 as a team. The Trojans only committed four errors in the set.
