Troy Ends Fall Play With Three Draw Victories

Winston-Salem, North Carolina – Fall play ended for Troy this weekend with another singles draw captured by Mustapha Belcora and two doubles victories at the Wake Forest Fall Invitational Sunday.
The junior used a slew of upsets to get to the finishing line of his draw. He upset the top-seeded player of Georgia State, Andrei Andrukhov, 6-4, 6-3 on Friday. On the same day, he then upset George Cartledge of Virginia Tech, 6-1 in straight sets.
Saturday brought another victory over Georgia State, this time a 6-2 win in straight sets over Zach Kennedy. He then won in the championship round, 6-3, 6-4, over Bennett Crane of Indiana.
Austin Racine fell in his quarterfinal matchup, but then proceeded to rally to earn a fifth-place finish with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win over Kataro Horiuchi of Davidson.
On the double side, Filip Mansson and Jiaqi Duan captured their draw by winning all three of their matches. They won 7-6 (5) over CSU, 6-4 over Georgia State and 4-1 over UNCC in the championship round.
Gabriel Niculescu and Shaaz Peerani were aided by a first-round bye in doubles play then advanced on a withdraw before winning their only matchup 6-3 over Navy to capture the draw.
Pablo Moreno and Andy Lau were upset in the first round of doubles play on Friday, 6-4 to Davidson, but then won the next two matches to win the consolation draw.
Hassan Ndayishimye and Amer Bedwan also lost their first doubles matchup and then rallied to win the rest of the matches to capture their consolation draw.
NOTEWORTHY
• The Trojans won at least one draw in every team-hosted fall tournament they competed in.
• Lau, Niculescu, Andre Baldo, Ndayishimye and Bedwan all won their first matchup in singles play before falling in the second round.

The Trojans will begin the regular season in 2017.
