Trojans Come Up Short In Finals Play

MACON, Ga. – The conclusion of the Mercer Gridiron Classic on Sunday came with the Trojans falling just short of multiple titles in singles play.
Troy sent two players to the finals, Jiaqi Duan and Austin Racine, but Duan fell 6-3, 6-7, 10-5 to Giles Hussey of Georgia State and Racine lost 6-1, 6-1 to Murphy McCollough of Georgia Southern.
Prior to that, Duan defeated Nicolas Guillon of Mercer 6-2, 6-4 and Racine defeated Rafa Hewett of Point University 7-6, 7-5, 11-9 in semifinals play.
The Trojans also had Andre Baldo in the semifinals, but his tournament came to a close with a 6-1, 7-5 loss to Abhin Sharma of Georgia State.
Consolation play saw a 7-5, 0-6, 10-6 victory by Gabriel Nuclescu over Eddie Landin of Georgia Southern and singles losses by Amer Bedwan, Shazz Perrani and a doubles loss by Bedwin and Mustapha Belcora in consolation play.
NOTEWORTHY
• This is the first tournament in which no Trojans took home titles after two singles titles were won last weekend
• Troy kept up its' streak of six consecutive days of play without any player being shut out in singles or doubles play.
UP NEXT
The Trojans will be in action next weekend at the ITA/USTA regionals in Auburn, Ala. Play will begin on Friday.
