Two Trojans Advance to Round of 32

AUBURN, Ala. – The Trojans played their first matches on Alabama soil on Friday with the start of the ITA/USTA Regional competition in Auburn, Ala. and walked away with singles and doubles victories.
The highlight on the day was Pablo Moreno and Andy Lau in doubles play. The pairing continued the success of past seasons by advancing to the round of 32 with a bye and then winning 8-3 over Samford to reach the Round of 16 against Auburn.
Hassan Ndayishimiye and Jaiqi Duan also picked up a win in the first round of doubles play, 8-3 over LSU, before falling to Mississippi State, 8-3.
Moreno and Lau also made their marks in singles play. The senior advanced on a bye then defeated Pearse Dolan of Louisiana 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 to advance to the round of 32.
Lau won 6-1, 6-3 over Richie Sivalls of Auburn and 6-4, 7-6 over Arthur Libaud of Louisiana to also advance to the round of 32.
NOTEWORTHY
• Freshman Amer Bedwan gained another victory in his second week of play with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Louisiana in the first round.
• The Trojans still have not been shutout in any round of play this season.
• Mustapha Belcora and Bedwan notched a victory in doubles play to start the morning session.
