Troy Women’s Tennis Grabs Quality Win at FIU
1/29/2016 5:51:00 PM | Tennis (W)
Miami – The Troy women's tennis team won the final three singles matches, including one over a ranked opponent, to grab a comeback win against a quality opponent in FIU, 4-3, at the FIU Tennis Courts on Friday.
Troy (2-1) won the doubles point with a pair of 6-4 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. FIU (1-1), however, opened singles play with straight set wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 2, respectively, to put the Trojans in a 3-1 hole.
Freshman Luisa Ferrauti battled through two tiebreakers to win at No. 6 singles, keeping Troy alive with a 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3) win over Kaitlin Brozovich.
Sophomore newcomer Efriliya Herlina then picked up the best win of her young collegiate career, knocking off No. 69 Nerma Caluk in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4, at No. 4 singles. That tied the score at 3-3 with Troy veteran Sanae Ohta still on the court.
Although only a sophomore, Ohta has more matches under her belt as a Trojan then anybody else on the roster, and that composure showed. Ohta battled back after losing the first set to Carlotta Orlando and gutted out a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win that clinched Troy's 4-3 victory.
The Trojans now have a short drive and a quick turnaround before they take on another former Sun Belt foe, Florida Atlantic. The Trojans and Owls will begin at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday.
