Troy Women’s Tennis Completes Weekend Sweep

BOCA RATON, Florida – For the second straight day the Troy women's tennis team grabbed a 4-3 win against a former Sun Belt team on the road, this one over Florida Atlantic on Saturday at Patch Reef Park.
Troy (3-1) has now won three straight after a season-opening loss. Unlike Friday at FIU, the Trojans lost the double point against the Owls and had to rally in singles action. FAU (3-2) got wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take the opening point.
Jiayuan Xue then grabbed her first singles win of the season for Troy, winning in three sets at No. 1 over Lyndsey Boos, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Sanae Ohta then gave Troy the lead with a 7-6 (4), 6-0 win at No. 3 over Ana Gutierrez.
Efriliya Herlina, fresh off of a ranked win on Friday, put the Trojans on the brink of clinching with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win over Marisa Ruiz at No. 4. The Owls, however, got wins at No. 6 and No. 2 to tie the match, 3-3, with only No. 5 singles still on the court.
That is where Troy's Nancy Karaky had already come back from a first set loss and was dominating down the stretch. The Trojan sophomore went on to win, 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, to clinch Troy's third straight win.
Troy now turns its attention to Friday's home opener when Alabama State visits the Lunsford Tennis Complex for a 2 p.m. contest. Admission is free to all Troy home tennis matches.
