Troy (6-13, 1-7 Sun Belt) knocked off Texas State in its last home game before dropping both games on its swing through Louisiana. South Alabama (7-12, 2-6) also lost both of its games against ULM and UL Lafayette last week after upsetting UT Arlington back on Jan. 16.
Wesley Person leads the Trojans averaging 16.5 points per game after extending his streak with a 3-pointer to 48 games as he hit a pair against the Cajuns on Saturday. The Trojan sophomore has scored in double figures 14 times this season and has reached the 20-point mark on seven occasions.
Sophomore Jordon Varnado led Troy with 15 points against UL Lafayette and has led Troy in scoring seven times this season, just one game behind Person for the team lead. He has also led the Trojans in rebounding 13 times. Varnado ranks eighth in the Sun Belt averaging 15.6 points per game and is fourth in the league averaging 7.7 boards per game.
John Walton III has turned in an impressive 10-game stretch where he has scored double figures in seven of those games, including the last three. On the year, Walton is scoring at a 9.2 per-game clip, while averaging 7.6 rebounds.
The Trojans received a big offensive outburst from Jeremy Hollimon in two of the past three games as the junior guard dropped 26 points on ULM and 13 against Texas State to push his season average to 12.2 points per game.
South Alabama is led offensively by guard Ken Williams' 14.6 points and 2.8 assists per game, while Georgi Boyanov chips in 10.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The Jags are 2-7 away from home this year and 1-3 on the road in Sun Belt play.
The Jags are one of the best teams in the league in defending the 3-pointer as they rank fourth in the Sun Belt and 77th nationally holding teams to 32.1 percent from beyond the arc. On the offensive end, South Alabama ranks second in the league with 448 free throw attempts, but are last in the league converting on just 63.2 of those attempts.
Following Tuesday's game, Troy will host Appalachian State on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. in the second game of a doubleheader with the women's team.
