Troy Women’s Tennis Grabs First Win, Splits Opening Weekend

DeLAND, Florida – The Troy women's tennis team picked up its first win and closed the opening weekend with a split after a 5-2 win over Stetson on Sunday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
After winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the opening point, Troy (1-1) got a great performance from the bottom of its lineup to cruise to the win. The Trojans picked up singles wins at No. 3, 4, 5 and 6 singles.
Nancy Karaky was the first to win, taking a 6-1, 6-3 decision from Brittany Hill at No. 5 singles. Luisa Ferrauti then gave the Trojans a 3-0 lead as she breezed past Alexandra Lyubimova, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6 singles.
Sanae Ohta clinched the match, winning over Carolina Meregalli, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 singles.
Stetson got on the board with a win at No. 1 before Efriliya Herlina closed out Troy's scoring with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Stetson (0-1) made the final score 5-2 with a win at No. 2 singles.
Troy returns to the court next weekend when it returns to Florida to take on old Sun Belt foes FIU and Florida Atlantic on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
