Troy Men Travel to Louisiana for a Pair of Sun Belt Games

TROY, Alabama – The Troy men hit the road for a pair of Sun Belt Conference games in Louisiana, beginning with ULM on Thursday night at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

The men's game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. and is the second of a doubleheader with the Troy and ULM women, which is scheduled for a 5:15 p.m. start. The game will be broadcast at ULMWarhawks.com and Barry McKnight will have the radio call on the Troy Sports Radio Network.

Troy (6-11, 1-5) picked up its first Sun Belt win of the season last Saturday at home with a 66-57 win over Texas State. Three Trojans scored in double figures, as Wesley Person led the way with 23 points. John Walton III recorded his second double-double of the season with 14 points and racked up 12 rebounds.

Offensively, the Trojans are led by sophomore guard Wesley Person, who has 17.4 points per game. Person is averaging 3.11 3-pointers per game, which is 29th most in the country and second most among all underclassmen in the nation.

Jeremy Hollimon has made 25 of his last 71 3-point shots, which is 35.2 percent. Hollimon has also scored in double figures seven of the last 12 games and eight of the last 14.

Jordon Varnado and Walton III are averaging a combined 16 boards a game, with Walton III leading the way with 8.1 per game and Varnado with 7.9 per game.

ULM (6-11, 2-4) has lost four straight games; its last win came on Dec. 31, at home against Appalachian State. The Warhawks are 5-0 at Fant-Ewing Coliseum this season, including its two Sun Belt wins. Majok Deng leads the Warhawks offensive attack with 18.5 points per game, which ranks third in the Sun Belt. Deng also has 7.6 rebounds per game, which is eighth best in the conference. ULM is only giving up 63.8 points per game, which is the second fewest in the league and is only teams to shoot 39 percent from the floor.

Troy leads the all-time series over ULM 9-5, but the Warhawks picked up the sweep last season with a 63-54 win in Monroe, La., and a 58-55 overtime win in Trojan Arena. This is the first meeting of the season between the two schools.
