Troy Volleyball Returns Home, Returns to Win Column

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team opened a six-match homestand with a sweep of Alabama A&M, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-19), at Trojan Arena on Tuesday night.
Troy (6-11) snapped a nine-match losing streak with the win and held Alabama A&M to a .043 attack percentage along the way. Darby Griff recorded six blocks to lead the Troy defense, followed closely by five blocks from Sara Landis.
"It's good to get a win, especially at home," Troy head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick. "We got to snap that nasty losing streak, and hopefully we can continue to get a little bit better for Friday against Georgia State."
Ali Dowdall posted a match-high 18 digs and was joined in double digits by Avalon Nero who recorded 11 digs.
Offensively, Blair Winston had 11 kills to lead the way for Troy. Griff and Leah Causey each recorded eight kills with Griff, posting a match-high .538 attack percentage thanks to just one error on 13 attempts. Alisha Hinrichs led the Trojans with 19 assists.
The first set was tight early, but Troy rattled off seven straight points to take a 19-13 lead on its way to a 25-22 win. The Trojans, who recorded 13 kills in each set, ran away late with the second set, turning a 19-16 lead into a 25-17 win.
Troy held Alabama A&M (2-16) to a .000 attack percentage in the third set and made a turnaround after trailing, 8-3, early. The Trojans quickly tied the score at 12-12, then used a late run to turn an 18-18 score into a 25-19 Trojan win.
Ashundria McNeal led Alabama A&M with a match-high 12 kills, but hit just .111 with seven attack errors. Drea Matthews led the way with 16 digs for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Trojans return to the court on Friday when they host Georgia State at Trojan Arena at 6 p.m. Admission to all home Troy volleyball matches is FREE.
