Troy Hosts Georgia State in Pivotal Sun Belt Match

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team will look to take a turning point in its season when it hosts Georgia State at Trojan Arena on Friday at 6 p.m. Admission to all home Troy volleyball matches is FREE.

Troy (6-11, 0-4) will be looking to string together wins after a Tuesday sweep of Alabama A&M that snapped a nine-match losing streak. The Trojans will also be looking for their first Sun Belt win of the season as Georgia State (4-9, 0-3) looks to do the same.

The Trojans have faced a tough schedule early in conference play, falling to Appalachian State, Little Rock and twice to Arkansas State, three teams that are a combined 10-0 in Sun Belt play entering this weekend.

Blair Winston has led Trojans offensively this season, averaging 3.08 kills per set, including 3.56 per set in the Trojans' last three matches. Darby Griff leads the team with a .273 attack percentage on the season.

Griff also leads the squad with 1.12 blocks per set, the third best mark in the Sun Belt. On the back line, Ali Dowdall ranks fourth in the league and first on the team with 4.78 digs per set.

Georgia State enters Friday's match having lost five straight matches, including three straight to open Sun Belt play. The Panthers opened conference play with road losses at Texas State and UT Arlington, then fell again to the Bobcats at home last weekend.

Georgia State won both of last season's meetings against Troy, winning in three sets at Trojan Arena and in five sets in Atlanta. Troy is 10-14 all-time against Georgia State. This will be the only regular season meeting between the Trojans and Panthers this season.
