Troy Football Notebook - Charleston Southern Game

• Senior receiver Teddy Ruben was the star of the game from start to finish. He had a pair of receiving touchdowns right out of the gate and a 64-yard punt return for a score in the fourth quarter. Ruben caught six passes for 89 yards, added 63 yards on punt returns and had a kickoff return for 22 yards. In all, he had 174 yards all-purpose with three scores on just nine touches.
• Troy claimed a 14-0 lead just three minutes and 19 seconds into the game. Both of the Trojans scoring drives were of four plays ending in a Brandon Silvers touchdown toss the Ruben.
• Troy posted five consecutive touchdown drives that were less than a minute in the first two games of the season. The last two scoring drives against North Carolina State and the first three versus CSU were all four plays or fewer and less than 60 seconds.
• The two teams both finished the contest with 374 yards from scrimmage. The Trojans had a big advantage early (106 to negative seven) just three series into the game, but the Buccaneers controlled possession and held their own for a large portion of the contest. CSU outrushed Troy 263 to 125.
• Troy rushed for negative three yards in the first quarter and 13 in the second. Charleston Southern junior tailback Darius Hammond amassed 103 yards on the ground by halftime, including a 56-yard dash late in the half. However, Troy committed itself to the run in the second half and wore out the Buccaneer defense with a running back by committee approach.
• Brandon Burks had the first multi-touchdown game of his career. Jordan Chunn reeled off a powerful 29-yard carry in the third quarter, which set up a touchdown. In the fourth quarter Andre Flakes broke outside on a run up the middle and ran 47 yards down the left sideline for aÂ
• The trio of Burks, Chunn and Flakes combined for three rushing scores with 149 yards on 20 carries.
• The Trojans ran 14 times for 115 yards in the second half after just 10 yards on 14 carries by halftime.
• Hammond finished with 161 yards on 23 carries, as he was held in check in the second half.
• Ruben's punt return for a score was the first by a Trojan since 2010 when Jerrel Jernigan did so versus Louisiana-Lafayette. Ruben found a seam up the middle, shook off a grab of the face-mask, found open turf down the right side. He outran the CSU punt team for the score.
• Linebacker William Lloyd followed his 15-tackle performance at N.C. State with five tackles, a sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss. Mitchell Roland was the leading tackler for the evening six solos and three assists. Against CSU's shotgun option attack defensive end Rashad Dillard posted seven tackles, 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss.
• The attendance for Troy's 2015 home opener was 17,517.
