Football Practices in Pads for First Time of Fall
8/3/2015 2:36:00 PM | Football
Â
TROY, Alabama – Day three of fall camp marked the first time in pads for the Troy football team, as the Trojans wore shells (helmets and shoulder pads) for their 90-minute practice Monday morning on the fields behind Trojan Arena.
Â
Head coach Neal Brown wasted no time letting his players get physical as the offense and defense squared off with a live competition to open practice. The Trojans focused on "drive starter" situations during the competition as they continue to install their schemes on both sides of the ball.
Â
The Trojans will once again practice in shells on Tuesday, but will practice in the late afternoon for the first time of camp as they will hit the field at 4 p.m.
Â
Season tickets for Troy's five home games, as well as tickets for away games, are available for purchase online, via telephone or in person. Season ticket prices start as low as $50 for general admission seats and $100 for reserved seats.Â

Fans can either purchase season tickets online by CLICKING HERE, by calling 1-877-878-WINS (9467) or in person in the Tine Davis Fieldhouse.Â

Opening statement…
We got better, much more improved than yesterday. I thought our attitude was better. We didn't give in. We talked about it; we're not going to have any discussion about weather. Control the controllable. You cannot control that – toughen up. 95 percent of our team is from the South, it is what it is. Everybody's practicing, doing the same thing. They're not doing any more than anybody else. I thought our mentality was better today. We are far from being ready to play, but our mentality is better. I thought we had more of a toughness to us today, mental toughness and a little physical toughness. We have got to be more detail oriented in all phases – offense, defense and special teams. We've got a bunch of new guys and I thought for the most part they went in the right direction today.
Â
 On having pads on…
Well, this is reality. We played flag football, I call it intramurals. We had intramurals the first two days. Today, we actually played organized college football.  You get exposed. Pad level gets exposed. It's always defense is further ahead than the offense, because they are more in attack mode, but this is a process. We will go shells again tomorrow and put on full pads the next day. We will get consistently better.
Â
On hitting big plays …
I thought yesterday, we did hit some big balls down the field. We hit several post balls. In the passing game, the last thing you get timing on your go-balls. Go balls to your outside receivers, your X and Z's in our system, those are the last things that time up. We missed several yesterday. We've got to be able to spread on the outside. We want to be a horizontal and vertical team. Our quarterbacks have to get more faith in throwing it. We talk about failing up. Fail up. Get better as you make mistakes; get better as you miss throws. It is a process right now.
