Troy Football Set for Second Scrimmage of Camp Saturday Night
8/14/2015 3:16:00 PM | Football
TROY, Alabama – The Troy football team will hold its second scrimmage of fall camp under the lights Saturday inside Veterans Memorial Stadium; the Trojans will open the scrimmage at 6 p.m. and fans are encouraged to attend.
Â
"We've got a long ways to go. The thing about us is we have to play with discipline and that is something we struggle with, especially when we get fatigued," head coach Neal Brown said. "We lose who we are when we are tied. If we're fresh, we think and we play and we do things right, but when we get a little fatigued our technique goes and our mental toughness goes. We need to put them in as many situations where we try them, whether it's practice or a scrimmage, because we have to overcome adversity."
Â
Including Friday's practice, the Trojans will have 11 practice sessions and one other scrimmage under their belts so far during fall camp. Last weekend's practice saw an emphasis on the run game, with the defense gaining the upper hand.
Â
"I was pleased with the defense last weekend," Brown said. "They got a number of three-and-outs, we need to shore some things up in the red zone, but they did a good job in the coming off situations. I thought we got wore out defensively as drives went on. On offense, we didn't do a very good job in short yardage and coming off the ball. I thought the tempo was good at times and we did a very good job finishing touchdowns in the red zone.
Â
"We are going to do a lot of situations in this scrimmage. We've got to put our quarterbacks in a bunch of situations and do a little bit more special teams in the scrimmage."
Â
