TROY, Alabama – Troy senior offensive lineman Dalton Bennett has been named to the Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List after he was one of just 50 players nationally and the lone Sun Belt Conference player to be named to the spring watch list for the award.
Â
Bennett is one of 63 players nationally and three in the Sun Belt on the fall watch list for the award that is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I FBS college football. Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first team All-America center at Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
Â
A native of Marianna, Fla., Bennett has started 24 straight games entering his senior season for the Trojans. He finished his junior season with 30 knockdown blocks and graded out at 86.5 percent.
Â
Bennett allowed just one sack over the final 10 games of the season and was a key piece of an offensive line that protected for NCAA record-setting quarterback Brandon Silvers; Silvers set the NCAA FBS record for completion percentage by a freshman as he completed 191 of his 271 pass attempts (70.5 percent).
Â
Finalists for the 2015 Rimington Trophy will be announced on Dec. 7 and the winner will be announced on Dec. 10 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Rimington Trophy Presentation on Jan. 16, 2016 in Lincoln, Neb.
Â
Season tickets for Troy's five home games, as well as tickets for away games, are available for purchase online, via telephone or in person. Season ticket prices start as low as $50 for general admission seats and $100 for reserved seats.Â
