Troy Football Opens Fall Camp Saturday

TROY, Alabama – Eight months to the day he was announced as Troy's new head coach, Neal Brown will lead 105 players onto the practice field as the Trojans open fall camp Saturday at 10 a.m.
Troy practices will remain open to fans and the media and will take place both in Veterans Memorial Stadium and on the grass practice fields behind Trojan Arena.
"I'm looking forward to getting starting," Brown said. "There has obviously been a lot of work to get to this point. Our kids have had great attitudes and we've had a really high percentage of buy-in factor. We haven't faced any on-field adversity and I think that is something that we have to really challenge them with in fall camp.
"I'm looking forward to getting out with the staff – we've been selling the program, we've marketing it and recruiting is going really well, as we are up to 11 commitments for the 2016 recruiting class. Now it's about on the field. Let's get out there with the guys we have and let's work on developing them. We've got 29 practice opportunities and we definitely want to take advantage of all of them."
The Trojans will practice seven straight days, including one two-a-day, before the first scrimmage of the fall on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. The second scrimmage of camp will take place Saturday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m., while the final scrimmage will precede Fan Day on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m.
"We're going to be the same as we were in the spring with our tempo in practice," Brown said. "We going to go quite a bit shorter in the fall and we're going to ease into it during this accumulation period. Our guys have had about a week off since graduation, so we're going to ease them into it.
"The first two days are going to be in helmets and we want to make sure we don't get any injuries during that period. We will slowly build into it. There is a fine line, every coach in the country is facing the same dilemma, we've got to get enough work in to make sure we're ready to play a physical brand of football that we're going to have to play to win in this league, but also we want to make sure that we don't hinder ourselves and that we have the weapons we have in our arsenal available for that first game."
The Trojans return 19 starters from last year's squad, but the new coaching staff will use the early part of camp to evaluate both the returning players plus the new additions to the roster.
"We will use the first two weeks of fall camp to really make some decisions," Brown said. "The way I look at it is that all the guys who were here in spring ball had 15 opportunities. The guys who were in our signing class and who we are bringing in this August are going to have about the same number of practice opportunities over these two weeks to make an impression on the staff and make their case for playing time. After two weeks we'll figure out what our two-deep is and spend two weeks getting ready for the season."
Season tickets for Troy's five home games, as well as tickets for away games, are available for purchase online, via telephone or in person. Season ticket prices start as low as $50 for general admission seats and $100 for reserved seats.
