Brandon Burks Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List

DALLAS – Troy senior running back Brandon Burks has been named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, the PxW SMU Athletic Forum announced. Burks is one of 69 nationally, and one of six Sun Belt players named to the list for the award that is presented annually to the nation's top college running back.
Burks, a 2014 Sun Belt Honorable Mention selection, enters his senior season tied for 11th in Troy history with five 100-yard rushing games. He rushed for 584 yards and three touchdowns during his junior campaign. He averaged 6.1 yards per carry and topped the 100-yard mark against New Mexico State and Georgia State.
Against the Aggies, the Daleville, Ala., native rushed for 176 yards on just 10 cards. His 17.6-yard per carry average ranks the second highest in a game in the Trojan record books. Burks also tallied 23 receptions last season, the third most on the team, for 181 yards and a score.
In his sophomore season, Burks led the Trojans on the ground with 675 yards and a 56.2 yards per game average on the ground. He surpassed the 100-yard mark on three separate occasions – against South Alabama, Georgia State and UL Lafayette. He became the first Troy running back since 2008 (DuJuan Harris) to rush for over 100 yards in back-to-back games (USA & GSU). Burks was one of just nine players in the Sun Belt to top the 1,000 yard mark in all-purpose yards.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists on November 18, and the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will cast votes to determine the three finalists, who will be announced on November 24. The committee will cast a second vote beginning November 30 to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-American running backs, media members and selected special representatives.
The recipient of the 2015 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 10, on ESPN. The Doak Walker Award Presentation Banquet will be held in Dallas in early 2016.
