TROY, Alabama – Troy head coach Bart Barnes has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Coach of the Year for the second straight year, the league office announced Tuesday.
Barnes, who is in just his second season as the women's head coach, becomes the first Sun Belt coach to earn the honor in consecutive seasons since Denver's Sammie Chergo won five straight awards from 2006-10.
Barnes led the Trojans to their second straight Sun Belt Conference championship and berth in the NCAA Regionals. Troy carried a 99-33-1 record into its regional appearance at Notre Dame and finished the year with three tournament victories.
The Trojans posted the three lowest 54-hole scores in school history during the 2014-15 season in addition to posting the two lowest 36-hole scores and the lowest round in school history. Sophomore Fátima Fernández Cano shot the two lowest rounds in school history, the lowest 36-hole score and the two lowest 54-hole scores in school history.
Barnes led the Trojans to a No. 64 national ranking by Birdie Fire heading into NCAA Regional play, while a school record three players were named to the All-Sun Belt Team.
