TROY, Alabama – Awards for academics, athletic performance, best team and more were handed out Tuesday night at the inaugural Trojan Tribute inside the Claudia Crosby Theater on Troy's campus.
Â
The awards, which were based on the 2014 calendar year (Spring 2014, Fall 2014, Winter 2014-15), were voted on by members of Troy's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Trojan Tribute Senior Voting Committee.
Â
"My initial reaction is wow," Troy Athletic Director John Hartwell said. "It was a tremendous night and certainly there were parts of it that involved athletic success, but there were a lot of awards that involved things off the field of play, which is something that we emphasize. I can't wait until we do this again next year. A giant thank you and pat on the back to our SAAC members for the job that they did in organizing this event."
Â
The women's golf team took home the "T" Time Team Award after winning the Sun Belt Conference championship and advancing to the NCAA East Regional. Male and Female Athlete of the Year honors went to Marc Skinner (baseball) and Ronita Garrett (women's basketball), while Phillip Brennan (golf) and Kayla Pickart (volleyball) took home the top academic awards.
Â
"It went really well and it is super exciting to see a bunch of student-athletes come together to celebrate their accomplishments," Troy football student-athlete and SAAC officer Tommy Blevins said. "I would like to see the excitement for Trojan Tribute continue to grow. It was really nice to see everyone dressed up and being able to enjoy our accomplishments."
