Troy Track and Field Travels to Tiger Track Classic

AUBURN, Alabama – The Troy track and field team is set to compete this weekend at the Tiger Track Invitational, hosted by in-state foe Auburn, which will be held at the Hutsell-Rosen Track. Among the highly touted competition will be in-state, conference rival South Alabama.

Friday's events are slated to begin at 2 p.m., starting with the men's hammer throw, while the men's 5000-meter run will close out competition at approximately 7:55 p.m.

Saturday's field events are scheduled to start at 11 a.m., with the women's pole valult. Running events on Saturday will start with the women's 4x100-meter dash, at noon.

The Trojans are coming off several strong performances in field events at last weekend's UNF Invitational, and are looking to keep up the pace during Friday and Saturday's events.

Corina Cox, who was last week's Sun Belt Female Athlete of the Week, will look to win her fourth discus competition of the season on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Jaevyn Wortham and Allison Taylor will also compete in discus, as well as the women's hammer throw on Friday at 4 p.m. Wortham will also compete in shot put at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.

Mariah Pennigton, Aleeah Stigarll and Riley Schwietz are all set to compete for the Trojan women in javelin throw at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Last weekend, Schwietz set a new personal record and brought home a third place finish in women's javelin last weekend.

Additionally on Friday, sophomore Jonnathan Valdez will compete in men's hammer throw at 2:00 p.m., while Clay Coburn, Douglas Dyer and Garrison Floyd will throw for the Trojans in the javelin at 7:55 p.m.

In triple jump events held at 4:00 p.m., on Friday, Issac Jennings will compete for the men's team, while Erin Woods and Nesha Defoe will jump on the women's side. Defoe will also compete in women's long jump on Saturday morning along with Stigarll and Alexus Cobbs. B.J. Kennedy, Garrison Floyd and Dyer will compete in long jump for the men.

Starting off Saturday's running events, the Trojan women will field two teams for the 4x100-meter relay, as well as two teams in the 4x400-meter relay. Â Troy's men will also race in the 4x400-meter relay.

Freshman standout Sydney Wright will run in the women's 100-meter and 200-meter dash on Saturday, along with fellow Trojans Aubrey West and Quinnterria Stallworth. Paige McMillan and Lacey Marcus will race in the 100-meter dash, while Cameia Alexander, Schwietz, Stigarll, and Sierra King will also take part in the 200-meter dash at 3:45 p.m.

Schweitz, Stigarll and Marcus will have a busy day Saturday, also taking on the 100-meter hurdles at 12:50 p.m., for the Trojan women, while Floyd, Dyer and Jason Iles will represent the men's team in the 110-meter hurdles.

Niata Alexander and Dallas Worthy are set to compete in the 400-meter dash for the Trojan women, and Cameron Rice will run in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash for the men's team.

Distance runner Julia Ostendorf will have a chance to repeat history on Saturday at 4:30 p.m., in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. At last year's Tiger Track Classic Ostendorf placed fourth in the event with a time of 10:51.18, which set a new Troy University record.

The Trojans have several athletes lined up to compete in several other distance races, including the men's and women's 1500-meter run and 3000-meter run.
