Troy Baseball Travels to Face Appalachian State

TROY, Alabama – The Troy University baseball team travels to Boone, N.C., for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against Appalachian State. The series is set to begin Friday at 5 p.m. (CT). Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m. and Sunday's finale is slated for noon.

The Trojans (15-15, 4-5 Sun Belt) are coming off a 9-3 midweek defeat to Alabama State. Troy carried a 3-2 lead into the ninth before the Hornets scored seven runs in the final frame to take the game.
Trevin Hall leads the team with a .375 batting average, fifth best in the Sun Belt Conference. Clay Holcomb continues pace the league with 13 stolen bases while Friday's starter Grant Bennett is tops in the conference with 47 strikeouts.
Bennett (5-1, 2.20) tossed seven innings against Alabama A&M in his last start. He allowed one run on four hits while fanning seven.
Lucas Brown (2-0, 1.15) is scheduled to take the mound on Saturday; he enters the weekend with the second-lowest ERA in the conference. Brown has allowed just two earned runs in his last 35 innings of work and walked just nine batter while striking out 24 over that span.
Freshman Corey Childress (2-3, 4.03) is Sunday's probable; he has surrendered just two runs in his last two outings.
Appalachian State (9-21, 2-10) snapped a six-game losing streak by winning both of its midweek games. The Mountaineers topped High Point, 8-3, on Tuesday before out-slugging North Carolina A&T, 12-10, on Wednesday.
Michael Pierson is batting .340 on the season and leads the club with 22 RBIs. Dillon Dobson is tied for the Sun Belt Conference lead with eight home runs while starter Taylor Thurber (3-5) is third in the league with a 1.78 ERA.
Friday's game will mark the first ever meeting between the schools.
