TROY, Alabama – The Troy University baseball team looks to extend its four-game winning streak in Sun Belt Conference play as it heads to Clay Gould Ballpark to take on UT Arlington in a three-game series set to begin Friday at 6:30 p.m. Saturday's game is scheduled for 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale will start at 1 p.m.
Live audio and stats for all three games will be available on TroyTrojans.com. WTBF 94.7 FM will carry the radio broadcast.
The Trojans (20-18, 9-6 Sun Belt) have won six of their last seven in conference play including four straight. The team enters the weekend tied with Texas State for fourth in the league but just 2.5 games back of Georgia State for first. Troy has also won four consecutive Sun Belt series.
Grant Bennett and Lucas Brown continue to be the most effective 1-2 pitching combination in the Sun Belt Conference. Bennett (7-1, 1.94) is the Sun Belt's reigning Pitcher of the Week and will get the start in Friday's opener. The junior right-hander leads the league in wins and strikeouts (56) and is third in ERA. Brown (3-1, 1.81) will take the mound on Saturday and is second in ERA and has pitched into the eighth inning in each of his last three starts.
Trevin Hall stands third in the conference with a .365 batting average while freshman Reid Long not only paces the club with six home runs but also leads the league with four triples on the season. Clay Holcomb enters the weekend with 20 stolen bases, most in the Sun Belt and 13th-most nationally.
It has been difficult for opponents to put together big innings against the Trojans on the weekend in part to the team's ability to turn double plays. Troy has rolled up 41 double plays on the season, seventh most in the NCAA.
UT Arlington (15-20, 6-9) comes in eighth in the league standings and is bounce back from a 7-1 loss to TCU on Tuesday. The Mavericks dropped two-of-three games to Georgia Southern last weekend. Matt McLean is batting.345 on the season and leads the club in most offensive categories. Colin Tornberg is tied for the Sun Belt lead with seven saves.
Chad Nack (2-3, 4.97) is UTA's Friday probable while freshman right-hander Daniel James (2-2, 3.54) will take the mound on Saturday. Joel Kuhnel (2-1, 3.20) is scheduled for Sunday.
