Sun Belt Conference Names Grant Bennett Pitcher of the Week

TROY, Alabama – Grant Bennett has been named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday. It is the second time Bennett has earned the honor this season.

The Hazel Green, Alabama, native tossed a complete game in a 3-1 win over Arkansas State on Friday. Bennett was two outs from a shutout before the Red Wolves plated its lone run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning. He struck out five with each of Arkansas State's seven hits coming in different innings. It was Bennett's second complete game of the season and has pitched at least seven innings in five straight starts.

Prior to the ninth inning, Bennett had recorded 13 consecutive scoreless innings. The junior improved to 7-1 on the season, the most wins in the Sun Belt. He is also tied for the league lead in strikeouts (56) and is third in ERA (1.94).

Bennett was also named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on March 17 after striking out 14 batters and taking a perfect game into the eighth against Georgia Southern.
