Troy (20-17, 9-6 Sun Belt) lost a 1-0 lead with two outs in the fifth when Arkansas State tied the game when Jeremy Brown singled home Joe Schrimpf. The Red Wolves claimed the lead in the sixth on Schrimpf's RBI single to center with two outs.
Trailing 3-2 with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning, Troy bunted three times and drew a walk to score four runs and take the lead for good. Logan Hill and Jo-El Bennett singled before Nick Masonia walked to load the bases. Windham Jackson placed a squeeze bunt perfectly down the first base line for a hit; Arkansas State was unable to make a play as the Trojans tied the game. Matt Sanders bunted to nearly the same spot but the throw home was late allowing Bennett to score and putting Troy out front, 4-3. Peyton Fuller walked to plate another run and Tripp Calhoun bunted home the Trojans' fourth run of the frame.
Arkansas State (14-20, 4-13) third baseman Tanner Ring hit a two-run home run in the ninth to pull the Red Wolves to within one but Jeremy McGowan (3-2) was able to close out the game to earn his third win of the season.
The Trojans opened the scoring when Hill singled in the first inning to score Clay Holcomb from second. Holcomb started the frame with a walk and quickly stole second for his 67th career stolen base passing Warren Arrington for fifth most in Troy history. Hill was 3-for-3 in the game recording his 13th multi-hit game and sixth three-hit performance of the season.
Austin Crook got the start on the mound for the Trojans and went four innings allowing one run on four hits. Troy and Arkansas State combined to use 11 pitchers in the game. The Red Wolves out-hit the Trojans in all three games despite dropping all three results. Troy entered the game just 1-14 when trailing after seven innings this season. Troy is now 12-1 when scoring six or more runs in a game.
It's the first three-game sweep of a conference opponent since the Trojans took all three games from Florida International in 2013.
Troy will travel to Birmingham to take on Samford on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
