Troy Baseball Hits the Road to Face Samford

TROY, Alabama – The Troy University baseball team travels to Birmingham on Tuesday to face Samford at 6 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The Trojans are looking for the season sweep after taking the first matchup 6-0 on Feb. 24.

Troy (20-17) is coming off a three-game sweep of Arkansas State over the weekend. The Trojans got solid pitching performances from Grant Bennett, Lucas Brown and Austin Crook, while Jeremy McGowan pitched well in relief, earning a win and a save in the series.
Bennett was two outs from a shutout when Arkansas State scored its lone run in Troy's 3-1 win on Friday. He struck out five with each of the Red Wolves seven hits coming in different innings. It was Bennett's second complete game of the season and has pitched at least seven innings in five straight starts. Prior to the ninth inning, Bennett had recorded 13 consecutive scoreless innings. The junior improved to 7-1 on the season, the most wins in the Sun Belt. He is also tied for the league lead in strikeouts (56) and is third in ERA (1.94).
Logan Hill enters the week red-hot offensively. The junior outfielder is batting .425 with two home runs, seven RBIs and 10 runs scored over the last 10 games. Trevin Hall continues to pace the squad with a .365 batting average, while Clay Holcomb leads the Sun Belt Conference with 20 stolen bases on the year.
Hill batted .583 (7-for-12) with four stolen bases and five runs scored against Arkansas State. Hill clubbed a pair of doubles in Troy's 3-1 win on Friday. The junior gave Troy an early 1-0 lead on Sunday with an RBI single in the first inning; he later scored the tying run in the eighth. Entering the week, Hill had five stolen bases on the season, he swiped four bags in the first two games of the Arkansas State series.
Samford (17-17) crawled back to .500 with a three-game sweep of Murray State in non-conference action over the weekend. The Bulldogs have won six of their last eight games and stand second in the Southern Conference standings. Austin Edens is batting .363 with five home runs and 25 RBIs for Samford. Hunter Swelling leads the club with 10 home runs and 41 RBIs.
Neither team has announced a starting pitcher.
