MOBILE. Alabama – The Troy men's basketball returns to the court on Saturday as it heads to in-state rival South Alabama for its final game of the 2014-15 season. Tip off at the Mitchell Center between the Trojans and Jaguars is slated for 4:05 p.m.
Â
Troy (10-18, 5-14) got to rest its legs as it is coming off a bye on Thursday. In their latest outing, the Trojans fell to Sun Belt leader Georgia State, 75-64, at Trojan Arena, which eliminated Troy from postseason play.
Â
On senior night, Musa Abdul-Aleem, one of two seniors, scored 12 straight points for the Trojans to close out the game on his way to a game-high 19 points.
Â
Freshman Wesley Person was the only other Trojan to score in double figures, as he poured in 12 points, which allowed him to set a new Troy Division I freshman scoring record with 387 points, breaking Robert Rushing's record of 385.
 Â
Troy's second senior, Kevin Thomas, pulled down a team-high six rebounds and now has 227 rebounds this season, which ties him for the sixth most rebounds in a single season in Troy's Division I history.
Â
South Alabama (10-20, 8-11) earned a spot in the Sun Belt conference tournament with an 81-76 win on the road at Arkansas State on Thursday night.Â
Â
After leading by as many as 24 points, South Alabama saw its lead slip away as Arkansas State outscored the Jaguars 29-7 to tie the game at 73 with 2:49 to play. The Jaguars were able to hold on to clinch a berth to postseason play.
Â
The Jags were led by Dionte Ferguson, who paced South Alabama with 20 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the floor, and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Â
The Trojans and Jaguars first met in mid-February at Trojan Arena. Troy had all five starters score in double figures, but it wasn't enough as it fell to South Alabama, 71-67.
Â
After trailing for a majority of the contest, Troy made an 8-0 run to take a 49-46 lead with just 10 minutes to play, but South Alabama countered with a 10-0 run of its own which the Trojans could never recover from.
Â
In the loss, Thomas tallied 11 points while reeling in a game-high 13 rebounds. Meanwhile, John Walton III also earned a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Kelton Ford poured in a game-high 17 points, in large part thanks to his 3-of-5 showing from long range.
