STOCKBRIDGE, Georgia – The Troy women's golf team is in third place following Monday's second round of the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at the Eagle's Landing Country Club and just four shots back of the lead, while Trojan sophomore Fátima Fernández Cano is tied for first place on the individual leaderboard.
The Trojans, who led after the opening round, shot a 14-over 302 for the second straight day led by a 1-under card from Cano. Middle Tennessee finished 7-over on the day to move into the team lead by three strokes over Morehead State and four shots ahead of Troy.
Teams hit the course nearly three hours late as lightning pounded the area throughout the morning to force a shotgun start. Cano had an eventful front nine as the carded four birdies and three bogeys; her four birdies came in a five-hole stretch. She played the back nine even with a birdie and a bogey. Cano is tied for first with Georgia State's Lauren Court at 1-under for the tournament.
Sydney Conrad jumped eight spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 44th place after shooting a 4-over 76, while Langley Vannoy climbed four spots into a tie for 56th after shooting a 6-over 78. Conrad had a pair of birdies in her round, and Vannoy opened with birdies on two of her first three holes.
Taylor McGraw is closing in on her second top 10 finish of the season as she sits in a tie for ninth place after carding a 5-over 77 in Monday's round. McGraw is just four shots back of the top five.
Becca Horner shot a 7-over 79 on Monday and is tied for 29th place and just two shots out of the top 15. Playing as individuals, Brooke Spinks is tied for 63rd place after shooting an 82 and Kalyn Hudson is tied for 76th after shooting an 87.
The tournament will conclude with a shotgun start Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. (CDT). Troy will be paired with Old Dominion and Western Carolina and will open play on holes four through six.
