2/8/2015 4:08:00 PM | Softball
TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team lost a close game to North Florida, 3-0, Sunday at the Troy Softball Complex in the final day of play at the Troy Classic.
Â
The Trojans (2-3) were in a good position early in the first inning with two runners in scoring position and just one out. However, back-to-back strikeouts by Kayla Goff ended the Troy threat.
Â
Becca Hartley had half of the Trojans hits on the afternoon as she went 2-for-3 at the plate. Hartley singled up the middle to get things started in the fifth inning and got her second hit of the game with a two-out single in the seventh inning.
Â
Sara Mock (0-2) got her second straight start in the circle and again took a hard-luck loss. Mock went the distance and allowed three runs – one earned – on eight hits. Mock also struck out a season-high five batters.
Â
North Florida (5-0) got on the board in the third inning with a pair of unearned runs. Stacy McClelland drove home the first run of the inning on a grounder to short following a Troy error earlier in the frame, while the second run scored due to an illegal pitch. The Ospreys capped the scoring in the seventh with a two-out double from McClelland.
Â
Troy will be back in action Friday as it heads to Athens, Ga., to play in the Bulldog Invitational, hosted by Georgia. Troy will play doubleheader on Friday playing Elon at 9 a.m. and then playing SIU-Edwardsville at 11:30 a.m.
