Trojans Return Home For Pair of Games

TROY, Alabama – After three games in three days at the Mean Green Showcase, the Troy men's hoops team returns to Trojan Arena for a pair of games, starting with Southern Miss on Tuesday. The Trojans and Golden Eagles will tip at 7:30 p.m., following the conclusion of the women's game with Nicholls, which is slated to start at 5:15 p.m.

Troy (3-3) is coming off a 1-2 showing in Denton at the Mean Green Showcase. Troy, after falling to Samford and Idaho, defeated host North Texas 86-74, to keep the Trojans 2-0 on the road this season.

Troy was led by its leading scorer, Wesley Person, who shot 7-of-11 from the floor for 24 points, including a career-high five treys. Freshman Jordon Varnado recorded his third double-double of the season as he poured in 16 points and reeled in 10 boards. Jeremy Hollimon and John Walton III also earned double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively.

In the game, the Trojans shot 43.5 percent (30-of-69), including 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from long range, a season best. North Texas tallied 18 turnovers on the night as the Trojans swiped away 10 steals.

Southern Miss (0-4) comes to Troy without a win under its belt this season. The Conference USA squad has fallen to Memphis, Jackson State, William Carey and most recently, Morehead State on the road, 61-46. Khari Price averages 10.0 points per contest leads the Golden Eagles. On the glass, Eddie Davis III leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per contest.

Troy continues its homestand as it welcomes Austin Peay to Trojan Arena on Saturday for a noon tip. Troy then finishes its nonconference slate on the road before returning home for its Sun Belt season opener against Arkansas State on December 30.Â
