TROY, Alabama – The Troy men's basketball team secured its first signee of the 2016 class, a versatile 6-foot-3 185-pound guard hailing from Carver High School in Montgomery, Darian Adams, head coach Phil Cunningham announced Monday.
"We're thrilled about Darian's decision to become a student-athlete at Troy next year," Cunningham said. "One of our recruiting goals has been to sign one of Coach Jackson's players from Carver. Any player from that program comes with a built-in sense of knowing how to win, and Carver players consistently succeed at the college level because of their time under coach Jackson and his staff.
"Darian also fits in with the profile of player we want in our locker room at Troy. He is very talented on the court and his goal off the court is to earn a quality degree. We realized he comes from a high character family as soon as the recruiting process began, and that's an important part of what we are trying to build. "
Adams helped Carver to its second state championship in the last four years, but it was the third straight title for Adams, who won two IA Alabama State championships at St. Jude in 2013 and 2014 before transferring to Carver.
Adams helped lead the Wolverines to the 2015 6A Alabama High School Athletic Association State Championship and a 29-4 record. As a junior, he averaged 11 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals per game for the Wolverines.
Adams played AAU ball for the Alabama Challenge, one of the South's strongest summer teams.
Darian comes from a family of collegiate athletes. His mother, Yolanda, ran track at Arizona, while his father, Clark, played basketball at Farleigh Dickinson. Darian's older brother, Desmond Deramus, currently plays basketball at AUM.
Adams will be Troy's only early signee as the Trojans only lose one senior, John Walton III, from the 2015-16 squad.
