Troy Returns To Trojan Arena Sunday for Home Opener

TROY, Alabama – After taking down South Florida on Friday night, the Troy men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Trojan Arena as it plays host to Reinhardt. Tip between the Trojans and Eagles is slated for 2 p.m.

Troy (1-0) earned its first win of the season in Tampa, overcoming a 14-point deficit to beat USF, 82-77, at the Sun Dome on ESPN3.

In their debuts, freshman forward Jordon Varnado and redshirt junior guard Jeremy Hollimon led the Trojans. Varnado earned his first double-double, with a game-high 21 points and 11 boards. Hollimon also added 21 points, while tallying three steals. Daniel Peace dished out a game-high six assists.

Trailing 49-35 with 2:09 to play in the first, the Trojans went on a 9-0 run to cut the Bulls' lead to five heading into the break. After trading baskets to open the half, the Trojans went on a 10-0 run to take its first lead, 56-53, with 13:43 remaining.

The win was Troy's first win in a road season-opener in its Division I history, and the first since 1992.

Reinhardt (4-2) comes to Troy following a 110-76 win over Selma. The Eagles are averaging 95.2 points per game. Their leading scorer, senior guard Corey Ricks, is averaging 19.5 points per contest, while also leading the team in rebounds, averaging 6.0 per game. Ricks also leads the squad in steals.

This marks the first game the Trojans' will play as a part of the Mean Green Showcase. The rest of the games will be played in Denton, Texas. Troy will travel to Denton to play Samford (Nov. 23), Idaho (Nov. 24) and host-team North Texas (Nov. 25).

Troy continues its homestand as it hosts in-state rival UAB on Thursday, November 19. Tipoff between the Trojans and Blazers is set for 7 p.m.Â
