Trojan Fans,
Thanks to everyone who has helped make this fall a success so far. It has been fun watching our student-athletes grow and our teams compete with TROY pride!
There are several projects on the horizon that we will be able to provide updates on soon, but today I wanted to give a quick glimpse into how we are progressing on the field of competition this fall.
Football vs. Georgia Southern (Nov. 14th)
It is hard to believe that we will host our final home game of the year on Saturday. It will be a big one for many reasons. First, we will honor 22 seniors who have been committed to this program and have worked incredibly hard this season to continue to move us forward as we Rebuild The Wall. Second, Georgia Southern will be a great test for us as they are the defending Sun Belt Champions, having lost only one conference game over the course of its almost two years in the Sun Belt.
I would ask that everyone come out and support this team as they work to finish the season strong. We are going to have great football weather for the 2:30 p.m. kickoff. So, we will meet you all for Trojan Walk at 12:15 p.m. and prepare for a great victory!
Soccer Finishes Strong
Our TROY soccer team finished strong again this year as their season ended in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Championships last week with a final record of 14-4-2. We are very proud of Coach Hamilton and his student-athletes, who have won 30 games over the past two seasons. There is a short list of programs nationally that can make a similar claim.
Volleyball Qualifies for Postseason
Our volleyball program recently clinched a berth in the Sun Belt Conference Championships, as they won on Senior Day, 3-0, over Little Rock. They finish up the regular season on Friday at Georgia Southern, and then return to Statesboro to compete in the tournament the following week. We wish them the best of luck as they look to continue their positive momentum!
Basketball Season
Believe it or not, basketball season is upon us (it is not too late to buy season tickets!). Our home schedule kicks off this weekend as the women host West Alabama on Friday at noon and the men host Reinhardt at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Noon may seem like a strange tip time for a weekday game, however this is our annual Education Day where we bring in school-age children to experience the event. We have over 500 students from the area schools scheduled to bus in for a great day!
We also have a great home schedule in late November/early December on the men's side. On Nov. 19 we host UAB and on Dec. 1 we host Southern Miss. Both should be great games, and we need a great home atmosphere to help our guys get the Ws! See you there!
SAAC Food Drive
Our SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) has orchestrated a food drive to help needy families in the community and we are looking for your help. They are asking that all fans attending the basketball games this weekend (on Friday or Sunday) bring several canned goods, which will be collected at the gates, to add to the worthy cause. This is the 11th year of the Troy SAAC Food Drive. Last year, Troy student-athletes donated approximately 10,000 canned goods for use by residents of the Troy community during the holiday season.
If you aren't familiar with SAAC, they are our leadership group among our student-athletes. Each sport is represented, and these students get an opportunity to represent the larger group and grow through various leadership opportunities. They are a valuable asset to our TROY Athletics family!
Thanks to all of you who have shown tremendous support for our programs as we strive for EXCELLENCE! Without a doubt, our best days are ahead!
Go TROY!
