Troy Hosts Rival South Alabama on Tuesday

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team looks for its third straight win, including a second in Sun Belt play, when rival South Alabama visits Trojan Arena for a 6 p.m. match on Tuesday. Admission to all Troy volleyball homes matches is free.

Troy (7-11, 1-4) is in the midst of a six-match homestand that has started with a pair of wins. The Trojans knocked off Alabama A&M last Tuesday and Georgia State last Friday behind two big defensive efforts.

Troy held the Bulldogs and Panthers to .043 and -.024 attack percentages, respectively, the two lowest marks by Troy opponents this season. Troy held Georgia State to 34 kills and 37 errors in four sets, marking the first time Troy has held a Sun Belt opponent to an attack percentage below .000 since 2007 when it did so against ULM.

Ali Dowdall has led the Troy backline on the season, averaging 4.74 digs per set, the fourth best mark in the Sun Belt. At the net defensively, Darby Griff also ranks fourth in the Sun Belt with 1.12 blocks per set.

Offensively, Blair Winston has led the Trojans with 3.02 kills per set while Griff paces the team with a .259 attack percentage. Sara Landis and Leah Causey are each coming off of an 11-kill performance that led the Trojans against Georgia State.

South Alabama (8-7, 2-2) was last in action on Saturday when the Jaguars came from behind to beat Georgia State in five sets at home. South Alabama has won three of its last four matches, with the lone loss coming in five sets at Southern Miss.

In its Division I era, Troy is 22-19 against South Alabama, including a 12-8 mark in Sun Belt play. The teams split last season's two matches with the road team winning each contest. In Sonny Kirkpatrick's nine seasons, Troy is 11-7 against South Alabama.
