Troy Volleyball Travels to Rival South Alabama

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team returns to the court on Tuesday when the Trojans travel to take on rival South Alabama at Jaguar Gym at 6 p.m. The match will be the first of four in six days for the Trojans.

Troy (13-12, 6-5) has not played since last Thursday when it fell to Texas State in four sets at home. That loss snapped an eight-match winning streak for the Trojans, who fell from fourth to sixth in the Sun Belt standings this weekend due to not playing.

The Trojans enter Tuesday's match holding opponents to a .172 attack percentage, the third best mark in the Sun Belt. Darby Griff leads the Trojans front line, and the Sun Belt conference, with 100.0 total blocks and is just the second Trojan in the last 20 years to post back-to-back 100-block seasons. Ali Dowdall leads the Troy backline, and ranks second in the Sun Belt, with 465.

Offensively, Blair Winston leads the Trojans with 281 kills and a 2.99 kills per set average. Griff leads the team with a .261 attack percentage on the team.

South Alabama (12-9, 6-4) is just half a game ahead of Troy in the Sun Belt standings thanks to a five-set win over Texas State last Saturday. The Jaguars have won five of their last seven matches with the two loses coming at Arkansas State and at Troy.

 The Trojans and Jaguars played in early October with Troy winning in five sets in Trojan Arena. Troy held South Alabama to a .116 attack percentage in that match, thanks in large part to Ali Dowdall's 31 digs.

With that win, Troy is now 23-19 in its Division I history against South Alabama, a period that dates back to 1994. Troy is 10-9 in Mobile, including wins in each of its last four trips their. Troy last lost a match in Mobile in 2010.

Following Tuesday's match, the Trojans will travel to take on UT Arlington and Texas State on Friday and Saturday, respectively.  Troy will then return home to host Mississippi State at Trojan Arena next Monday.
