Â
TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team rebounded from a first-set loss and took control the rest of the way, beating UL Lafayette, 3-1 (23-25, 25-9, 29-27, 25-15), at Trojan Arena on Saturday night.
Â
Troy (10-11, 4-4) has now won five straight matches and moves to 9-2 at home this season. Blair Winston posted 19 kills to lead the way for Troy, but a sequence from Sara Landis was pivotal in Troy's win.
Â
After losing the first set and dominating the second set, Troy faced multiple set points as UL Lafayette (5-15, 1-7) led the third set, 24-21. It was then that Landis recorded three straight kills for the Trojans to tie the score at 24-24.
Â
"Sara in the third set really did some great things," Troy head coach Sonny Kirkpatrick said. "She started to take advantage of some of the matchups that we had. We kept plugging away and we managed to pull out a win."
Â
Troy went on to fight off two more set points before winning the third set, 29-27. Those were three of Landis' 10 kills. She hit .400 with just two errors and was the second of three in double-digit kills, joining Symone Shaw who recorded 12 kills.
Â
Reina Terry posted a double-double with 41 assists and 15 digs. Ali Dowdall led the way with 25 digs, helping hold the Ragin' Cajuns to a .117 attack percentage.
Â
"We had some really great moments and had some really bad moments," Kirkpatrick said. "They came in with a really great gameplan and we struggled for a little bit and had to make some adjustments."
Â
The Trojans held the Cajuns to sub-.000 attack percentages in the second and fourth sets, winning those two sets, 25-9 and 25-15, respectively. In the Cajuns' first set win, Troy also fought off five set points, but despite getting to within 24-23 after trailing 24-18, saw the Cajuns win 25-23.
Â
Chloe Cordell led the Ragin' Cajuns with 17 kills and posted a team-high .293 attack percentage. Chynna Brooks and Sara Mossakowski had five blocks each for a UL Lafayette team that recorded 10.0 total team blocks.
Â
The Trojans return to the court on Tuesday when Florida A&M visits Trojan Arena for the final match of six-match homestand. Troy will then travel to ULM and UL Lafayette next weekend.
