Garrett Named Sun Belt Player of the Week

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Troy women's basketball senior Ronita Garrett was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Garrett helped Troy (10-5, 5-1) extend its winning streak to five games with a pair of double-doubles, giving her three straight and 10 on the season, the most in the Sun Belt and 12th in the NCAA. The five-game winning streak is Troy's longest since 2008-09 and its 5-1 start to conference play is its best since 1998-99.

Garrett started the week with 15 points and 11 rebounds on the road at ULM, including 10 points and eight rebounds in the second half when Troy scored 61 points to storm past the Warhawks. Defensively, Garrett tied a career high with three blocks against ULM.

The senior was just as impressive in a home win over Georgia Southern on Saturday, posting 16 points and 13 rebounds, including 11 points and eight rebounds in the second half. Garrett again was a difference maker defensively, posting a career-high five steals against the Eagles.

Garrett now ranks eighth in the Sun Belt in scoring (13.7), second in rebounding (10.5), fifth in steals (2.1) and first in double-doubles (10).

The honor is the first of Garrett's career. She is the second Trojan this season to earn the honor, after Caitlyn Ramirez won in December after scoring 21 in a win over Samford. Ramirez and Garrett are just the second and third Trojans, respectively, to win the honor, joining former Trojan Joanna Harden who won the award three times.
